BMBF funds another project from KAIROS GmbH Bochum

For the second time the BMBF (The Ministry for Education and Research) has deemed a project idea by KAIROS GMBH as fundable. KAIROS was one of many applicants from throughout all of Germany for the “KMU-innovative” program.
Since 2007 the BMBF regularly chooses such project outlines which distinguish themselves from many others through especially innovative and excellent ideas and which may help solve societal and scientific problems.

With “KMU-innovative” the BMBF supports top-level research in important fields for the future, such as biotechnology, medicine technology, or nano-technology.

The work of the IT-company KAIROS, which has its headquarters on the BioMedicineCenter on the Ruhr-University Campus in Bochum, will be provided substantial funding, which will make it possible to specifically further develop the in Germany unique system solution “CentraXX” (Biobanking, Study Management), which will further increase its technological significance.
In Germany, 17 university clinics already employ CentraXX, including some oncological centers of excellency, as well as the large-scale German project “National Cohort” with 200.000 study participants.
“Of course we are extremely happy, because we can invest these funds in the development team with and thus further work on the KAIROS-success story”, says Martin Zuenkeler, managing director of KAIROS GmbH.

KAIROS GmbH develops a fully web-based and workflow-engine controlled study management system. New functionality as well as added efficiency can now be expected on various levels.

For the patient: The system will allow those in search of help to find studies that are not only offered near their home, but rather such studies that truly fit to their disease.
For organizers of studies: The data quality can already be checked during entry. This allows marking data with clear quality characteristics, and also re-demanding data in relevant cases. Including further sites of a study becomes far easier when the systems of the proposer are being used for multi centered studies (Plug&Play). The integration of departmental information systems (DIS) of proposers should also take place via Plug&Play. For the integration of third party DIS should take place following a generic standard.

For the researchers of study data: The compilation of collectives is facilitated through data processing and the analysis of data is supported with a research data repository. At the same time the quality standards allow for the establishment of tools and work processes, that enable a transparent analysis and evaluation of data from the different study centers.

For biobank-users, doctors, and patients: The common use of measurement data (NGS, WSI, etc.) is made transparent, without the need of shifting any data. Furthermore, the departmental systems can be enriched with the data pool from the study management via automatic feedback. This can deliver relevant information for future diagnostics.

All in all this is good for Germany as a business location, especially for the sites of Bochum and Berlin: Kairos was able to hire seven new full time employees in 2015 – further interviews are being led.

Martin Zuenkeler: “We are constantly looking for application developers (Java EE) and student employees for software development and can offer Berlin as an especially attractive metropolitan location for our employees besides Bochum.

KAIROS GmbH – Now is the time!
