KAIROS convinces the Nationale Kohorte

After a multi-stage evaluation process, the Kairos GmbH has prevailed as the software provider for the scientific project Nationale Kohorte (NaKo).

CentraXX- a software product by Kairos- will be used for the development of a central biobank as well as for the handling of the biospecimens collected within the NaKo. By doing so, CentraXX will complement the Centralized Data Management, which is being developed at the University Clinic in Greifswald as well as the DKFZ in Heidelberg. In an examination of commercial, technical, and functional aspects, Kairos was able to convince the decision makers within the NaKo. There had been a total of 17 software providers from all of Europe that applied for the budget within the Nationale Kohorte. This list of applicants included names of well-known international providers.

The Nationale Kohorte will collect biospecimens from 200.000 test persons at 18 different study centers throughout Germany in the next 10 years. Thereby Germany catches up with the big international biobanking projects. The call for tender for the Nationale Biobank Initiative by the BMBF had already demonstrated the importance that biobanking has in Germany’s research landscape. The Nationale Kohorte further underlines this importance for medical research.

“We are very happy to have won this project. We view the possibilities for further standardization in biobanking as very interesting, also from a German perspective”, says Martin Zünkeler, founder of the Kairos. “So far the big IT-solutions in this field come from the US. It’s a good thing for us- in collaboration with our partners- to be able to bring in some German engineering spirit”, adds Christian Stephan, bioinformatics specialist with habilitation and Technical Managing Director of Kairos.
